Booking a Doctor's Appointment

Updated · Oct 12, 2026

Before you book

You book appointments at the clinic where you are registered. Not registered yet? See Registering with a Family Doctor.

How to book

  1. Contact your clinic by phone or through its online registration system.
  2. Explain your symptoms and ask for an appointment with your family doctor.
  3. Ask about the language. Ask whether the appointment can be provided in English or another language you speak.

What to bring

  • Your ID and health insurance information
  • A list of the medicines you take
  • Any relevant medical records

Seeing a specialist

If you need a specialist, ask your family doctor whether a referral (siuntimas) is required. Specialist consultations usually need a referral to be covered by health insurance.

Prescriptions, test results and sick leave

For repeat prescriptions, test results, sick-leave certificates or ongoing health concerns, contact your family doctor or your clinic.

If it cannot wait

In a life-threatening emergency, call 112 — do not wait for an appointment. See Emergency Medical Care.
