What integration programmes are

Integration programmes are structured schemes designed to help newcomers settle into life in Lithuania. They typically combine Lithuanian language learning, orientation sessions about how the country works (healthcare, education, rights and responsibilities), and practical help with documents, housing, or finding a job.

Programmes vary — some are run by the Lithuanian government, others by international or local NGOs. Eligibility and content depend on your situation.

State integration programme

Lithuania has a formal integration programme for recognised refugees and people granted subsidiary protection, coordinated by the Migration Department and implemented in cooperation with municipalities. This programme typically covers:

• Accommodation support for an initial period
• Lithuanian language courses
• Orientation about life in Lithuania
• Access to employment counselling via the Employment Service (Užimtumo tarnyba)
• Social support and case management

If you have been granted international protection in Lithuania, your case manager or the Migration Department can explain what you are entitled to and how to access it.

NGO and community programmes

A number of organisations run integration support that is open to a broader range of newcomers, including economic migrants and people at various stages of the legal process:

• IOM Lithuania — offers information, counselling, Lithuanian language courses, and orientation sessions for newly arrived migrants.
• Caritas Lietuva — provides social support, community activities, and practical help navigating services.
• Lithuanian Red Cross (Lietuvos Raudonasis Kryžius) — runs support programmes including language and social integration activities.
• Diversity Development Group and similar NGOs — focus on inclusion, anti-discrimination, and community engagement for migrants.

Employment support

The Employment Service (Užimtumo tarnyba) provides job search support, skills assessments, and funded training programmes.
